During meditation this morning the angels resurrected a memory from the early 1990’s. On a particular morning, I drove from the New Jersey shore to clinical supervision in Cherry Hill. The closer I got to this heavily trafficked, congested suburban area, the more my attention was placed upon the goings on in the cars around me. To the left, a woman applied mascara and eyeliner while driving. To the right, a man ate his hand-held breakfast as though it would be his last meal for the day: breakfast sandwich in one hand, coffee cup in the other. While driving. I saw another man shaving. And a woman brushing her long hair. The angels chimed in from above, commented that “This is what it looks like to us as we do our best to keep all of you humans on track.” And then they started to laugh at our absurd behaviors. I watched in astonishment as more such scenarios unfolded. The obvious observation: very few drivers were truly focused on driving. This required added diligent attention and stress on the drivers around them who were focused with the goal of arriving at their destinations safely. Most everyone was in a hurry.
How do we choose to enter into 2025? With focus? With submission to the distractions that surround us as well as populate our over-active minds? With gratitude for the beauty that abounds all around us? With peaceful body, heart, mind and spirit? Living life unhurried or at warp speed? We truly have choice in this matter. Our choices determine the quality of our lives.
My Wonderful Team piped in another analogy. Finding this clip from the Keystone Cops displays us at our distracted best: https://youtu.be/GwUUUqgfu-E?si=gLMpHepNR0zgt_qR. Enjoy!
Happy New Year, everyone!
With Love and Gratitude,
Barb
