“There but for the grace of God go I.” This is actually an exclusionary statement that references having escaped some kind of tragedy or sorrow. In fact, in keeping with the previous blog’s message, “The Bell Tolls,” no one escapes anything or is excluded from anything because we are ONE. What is done to one is done to the other. Ripples on the pond radiating out. We therefore have responsibilities beyond what most would consider.
For instance, with the around the corner elections, each adult is charged with the responsibility to vote. Every vote matters. Voting is not only a choice-it is a responsibility. Regardless of outcome. If we don’t show up, this very fact is registered in our Akashic Records. Remember that great movie, Bruce Almighty, during which God in the form of Morgan Freeman shows Bruce (Jim Carrey) the many file cabinets filled with events from his life? Bruce has created a legacy of unkind thoughts, words and deeds that will become part of his life review when it’s time for him to move from this world into the next world at the time of death.
We each have files that hopefully are not as extensive as Bruce’s. Nonetheless, every good and every unkindness are recorded at day’s end. We have lifetimes of such records. We come back here to work out what we haven’t learned or graduated from. Hence the repetitious opportunities that present so that we can finally “get the lesson” and move beyond it. The lessons will keep coming until we attain mastery. You know when you’ve succeeded when the repetitive scenarios disappear.
Humanity is currently undergoing an enormous opportunity for mastery. Lessons upon lessons. Ugliness the likes of which have not been seen in many centuries is being exposed and expressed on a daily basis. The ugliness becomes uglier than one could imagine.
But here’s the deal. Are you observing how much more love you are feeling? How much more kindness is being expressed by your fellow human beings? Some humans are shining like never before! The upliftment is noteworthy in devastated Appalachia. Every day folks are helping one another in remarkable ways. Extraordinary, actually. The hardships are unreal. And the blessings are phenomenal.
This is how lessons work. The lessons keep coming, regardless of causation, until we get it. We are here to love each other and to extend a helping hand to one another regardless of race, religion, education, social status, and gender. This is the truth of the teachings of the Christ, of Buddhism’s compassion. It is the truth of Mother Love. It is indigenous respect for all our relations. These are core teachings that have been offered every which way from Sunday. When we show up to embody and share this simple wisdom, we can change the world.
I speak this to you on this day as the world appears to be crumbling. It is crumbling. It needs to, my friends. So much of the human existence has been built around attachments to things that do not matter, possessions that do not enhance the quality of our hearts. It is time to shed what is irrelevant. It is time to let go what deters us from achieving inner peace through loving compassion for one another and acts of simple kindness. This is what is being asked of each of us.
Let’s get this lesson!
In the name of the ONE,
I AM Black Hawk

Do watch Bruce Almighty (Shadyac, Tom, Director, 2003) and Evan Almighty (Shadyac, Tom, Director, 2007), two films that could not be more relevant during this pivotal time.
